The Environment Agency has issued a ‘flood warning’ for the River Kent at Burneside, Bournville, Bridge Street, Carling Dale, Ivy Crescent, New Road and New Street in Kendal.
The EA is warning that flooding is expected for commercial and residential properties adjacent to the River Kent at Burneside, Bournville, Bridge Street, Carling Dale, Ivy Crescent, New Road and New Street .
The EA predict heavy rainfall during the early hours of Tuesday morning will cause the River Kent to rise to the flood warning threshold.
River levels will remain high during the afternoon and will peak at approximately 2pm today (Tuesday).
There may be more issues from smaller water courses throughout South Lakeland and agencies are warning residents to remain vigilant and take care whilst travelling, with many roads in the district already flooded.
Sandbags are available for self-collection from South Lakeland District Council depots at Canal Head, Kendal, and at Ulverston, Ecclerigg and a limited supply at Broad Street car park, Windermere.
