High Court case could shape Windfarm development in Cumbria

The High Court action between Milton Keynes Borough Council and Energy Companies has set the legal case for reasonable separation distances between wind turbines and homes

The landmark case could shape development of Windfarms in Cumbria and Lancashire if the Councils here adopt a similar stance in their Local Development Framework. This could stop single turbines or wind farms being built within 350m of another property.

Resident and pressure groups across the region are urging Councils to look at doing this as soon as possible.

Local Conservative Ben Berry thinks that its “vital for sustainable development” of windfarms. He said “I understand the Government has made a commitment to windfarms. But local residents need to be assured that their lives wont be blighted by these developments. A reasonable separation distance is a measured approach that meets in the middle.”
