Jingle Bell Jog to spread festive fun on the shores of Windermere

A new charity event will see over one hundred people dressed in festive clothing running, jogging and walking on the shores of Windermere

A new event on Sunday 29th November 2015 is set to be quite the spectacle as hundreds run, jog and walking in fancy festive dress taking part in the first annual Jingle Bell Jog on the shores of Lake Windermere.

Starting at Cockshott Point in Bowness-on-Windermere this event is being run by the Windermere and Ambleside Lions Club to raise funds to local charities. With the kind permission of the National Trust, Cockshott point will be alive with festive music, joyous atmosphere and not to forget festive food and drink.

Organising the event local Lion Chris Burstow said:

“Let’s paint the town red, green and white and kick off the festive season by getting the whole family dressed up as Santa’s, Elves, Reindeer, Christmas Puddings, Snowmen, Fairies – or anything Christmassy – and Walk, Jog or Run around a flat and scenic course in Bowness on Windermere! It’s the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit and a fun event for all the family to enjoy, and to raise money for worthwhile local charities.”

This new event is open to all ages and abilities and you can run, jog, walk, jingle, push prams, or use a wheelchair. The course is a flat and wheelchair / pram – friendly 2km loop starting and ending at the beautiful Cockshott Point – a peninsular overlooking Lake Windermere.

Entrants can choose on the day whether they complete 1 or 2 laps of the course, and the entry price is based on entrant age rather than the distance covered. Christmas outfits are essential – and Santa Suits can optionally be purchased via the online entry system. Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed!

The event it will take place on Sunday 29th November 2015 – already a festive weekend in Windermere with the Christmas lights being switched on by Santa the day before.

An adult entry is £10 with children costing just £5 (under 5’s go free!) and there is a discount for families. All participants will receive a medal for taking part with prams, wheelchairs and even dogs welcome!

There are a limited number of Santa Suits available for purchase along with your ticket – Santa Suits are available on a first come first served basis and can be collected before the event. But Windermere and Ambleside Lions encourage participants to dress up as any Christmas character to take part in this family fun event.

President of Windermere and Ambleside Lions club Andrew Irvine commented saying “We would love the whole town to get behind this event and come along to have some fun, as the sight of hundreds of Santas, Elves, Snowmen and Fairies taking part will add to the enjoyment for participants and spectators alike. Although the main aim is to raise funds for charities, we also want to put the FUN into FUNdraising”
