The Local Government Boundary Commission, in cahoots with South Lakeland District Council, are carving up our town. Our railway station, our high streets, Rayrigg road, The Lakes School, Orrest Head and most of the Lake is being transferred from Windermere into “Ambleside and Grasmere”.

proposed Windermere boundaries

Whilst the Prince of India restaurant and the Co-Op will be in Windermere, the Post office and Greggs will now be in Ambleside and Grasmere!

This hasn’t happened yet. We have until 18th July to tell the Boundary Commission how ridiculous this is. Contact Ben Berry if you want to find out how to make a personal submission or please sign this petition:

These changes are for South Lakeland District Council’s boundaries, not the Town Council’s or Cumbria County Council, but they could, and almost certainly will, be used in the future as justification for wide ranging changes. Let’s keep Windermere Windermere!
